Child Safety Standards

Our standard

Obscura strictly prohibits child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and any content or behaviour that sexualises, grooms, exploits, or endangers minors, including soliciting minors, sharing or requesting sexual images of minors, sextortion, and trafficking. Minors may not use Obscura at all.

Violations result in immediate and permanent removal of the account and device, preservation of evidence, and reporting to the authorities.

Section 02

Prevention

  • Adults only: the app is rated for mature audiences, targeted at 18+ in Google Play, and minors' access is restricted.
  • Sign-up requires a date of birth and a live selfie. An AI age estimate blocks anyone who appears to be under 21 or gives an under-18 birth date. A blocked device cannot retry for 30 days.
  • Photos can only be taken with the in-app live camera (no gallery uploads), which limits sharing of existing material.
  • An on-device nudity filter checks the sign-up selfie, blocks likely explicit photos before they are sent, and hides them on the receiving phone.
  • One account per device, and bans apply to the device as well as the account.
  • Our Community Rules, shown in the app, explicitly forbid CSAE.

In-app reporting

  • Every chat has a Report option in its menu, including a specific reason: “Suspicion of minor / underage profile”.
  • Reports include recent messages and media from the chat, so our team can act even though chats aren't stored on our servers.
  • Anyone, including people without the app, can report concerns by email to mail@prmedia.io with the subject “Child Safety”.

How we respond

  1. Reports marked as underage or involving minors are reviewed first, as a priority.
  2. Accounts that appear to belong to a minor, or that engage in CSAE, are banned immediately, together with their device.
  3. Apparent CSAM is reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) through the CyberTipline, as required by U.S. law (18 U.S.C. § 2258A), and the report is preserved as the law requires.
  4. We cooperate with law enforcement requests and comply with applicable child safety laws in the countries where Obscura is available.
